DPAS Online Course

Gray Card • Valid Only Once for Six Months • Online Class

Obtain a Temporary Gray Card to work for a driving school that is already established and state-certified.

Florida offers a Driver Performance Analysis System (DPAS) online class to allow driving schools (registered with the Florida DMV) to try out and educate instructors before enrolling them in the 32-hour certification class to receive their Blue Card. You may also take this course if you are opening a driving school that will become registered with the DMV.

  • You must receive your Gray Card from the DMV before you can begin teaching.
  • You can only receive one Gray Card; you cannot renew it ever.
  • The card is valid for only six months.
  • You must take the 32-hour certification class within six months to continue employment as a driving instructor for a state-certified driving school or to open your own diving school.

The DPAS course does not provide any instruction. It is an evaluation tool for crash probability in relationship to miles driven. You must complete the online class with a score higher than 61% to receive the Gray Card.

You must use a Windows computer to complete the course. Phones and Apple devices are not supported.

You will receive the link to the online class within 36 hours of registering. Once the link is emailed and clicked on, it cannot be used again, regardless of the reason for non-completion or failure. You must register again and receive a new link.
