Certification Class
32 Hours • 3-Day • In-Person + Homework
Obtain a Florida Driving Instructor Blue Card.
This class is for first-time driving instructors, instructors who have let their certification lapse, and instructors who have a Temporary Gray Card.
- If you took the DPAS online course, you must take this 32-hour class within six months of the issuance date on your DPAS Temporary Gray Card to continuing providing instruction.
- You must take an 8-hourrenewal course every five years to maintain your Blue Card status.
- The DPAS online course is NOT required before taking this 32-hour class. The 32-hour Blue Card always trumps the Gray Card.
You may not have to take this class if you have been certified by another state. The Division of Driver Licenses will determine if you have to take this 32-hour course, the 8-hour renewal course, or if they will accept your out-of-state certification. Call The Division of Driver Licenses in Tallahassee at 850-617-2505 before registering for this class.
Once you complete the class, you will receive a Certificate of Completion. The certificate must be sent to FLHSMV by the driving school owner, along with other requirements to become a certified instructor. We do not send your certificate to the state; it is your responsibility. Additional certificates or replacements are available for $30.
Class is in English, but Google translate can be used during class. You can choose to receive your workbook and homework in English or Spanish.
